Many visitors think of the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles as two separate attractions. In reality, they tell one continuous story of the French monarchy and the extraordinary ambition of Louis XIV.

Before it became the world’s most famous museum, the Louvre was the principal royal residence in Paris. But in 1682, the young Sun King made the bold decision to leave the capital and establish a new seat of power at Versailles.

Accompanied by your knowledgeable and friendly private guide, you’ll discover the vision behind this remarkable move. Learn why Louis XIV required his entire court to abandon the city and relocate to what was then little more than a hunting lodge surrounded by forests, nearly two hours from Paris by horse-drawn carriage.

Far from being a simple change of residence, Versailles became a carefully designed political instrument. By gathering the nobility under one roof, Louis XIV strengthened his authority, reshaped court life, and created the most magnificent royal palace Europe had ever seen.

Fortunately, you won’t have to endure the same arduous journey! Your private chauffeur will transport you comfortably from the Louvre to Versailles, allowing you to experience the King’s grand vision in a single seamless day.

Rather than simply visiting two of France’s most iconic landmarks, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how they are historically connected and why together they tell one of the greatest stories in French history.

The Louvre Museum - From Medieval Fortress to the World's Greatest Museum

During the private guided tour of the Louvre Museum, imagine over 35,000 works of art and centuries of French history. Far more than simply a museum, the Louvre was once the royal residence of the French kings, making it the perfect companion to the story that culminates at the Palace of Versailles.

Accompanied by your licensed guide, you’ll explore the museum at a comfortable pace while following an itinerary of our selected highlights (or your own tailored interests). Whether you’re passionate about Renaissance masterpieces, Greek antiquities, French painting, or the history of the French monarchy, your guide will bring each gallery to life through engaging stories and historical context. This historical perspective creates the perfect transition before continuing your journey to the magnificent Palace of Versailles, where Louis XIV established his new royal residence.

Depending on your interests, your visit may include some of the Louvre’s most celebrated treasures:

The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci
The Winged Victory of Samothrace, one of the greatest masterpieces of Hellenistic sculpture
The Venus de Milo, the timeless symbol of classical beauty
Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix
The Coronation of Napoleon by Jacques-Louis David
The impressive Medieval Louvre foundations, revealing the fortress that once protected medieval Paris

Your guide can also introduce you to many lesser-known masterpieces that are often overlooked by independent visitors, helping you discover the museum beyond its most famous highlights.

If you’re planning to explore the museum further, don’t miss our guide to experiencing the Louvre Museum at Night, when the galleries take on a completely different atmosphere.

The Palace of Versailles - A Secluded Hunting Lodge to the Grandest Palace in Europe

After a break in between for lunch, you’ll leave behind the bustling streets of Paris, and travel in the comfort of your private vehicle to the Palace of Versailles, where the story of the French monarchy reaches its most extraordinary chapter.

Before Versailles became the symbol of absolute monarchy, the French court lived around the Louvre in the heart of Paris. In 1682, however, the young Louis XIV abandoned the capital and moved his entire court to a former hunting lodge surrounded by forests and farmland.

Accompanied by your passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly private guide, you’ll discover why.

Why would the Sun King have hundreds of nobles relocate to what was then a remote estate nearly two hours away by carriage? The answer lies in Louis XIV’s extraordinary political vision. Versailles was far more than a magnificent palace; it was an instrument of power, carefully designed to place the king at the center of French political, social, and cultural life.

As you explore the palace, your guide will bring to life the ceremonies, traditions, rivalries, and personalities that transformed Versailles into the most influential royal court in Europe.

Your visit may include many of the palace’s greatest treasures, including:

The Hall of Mirrors, where dazzling receptions celebrated the Sun King’s glory and where the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919.
The King’s State Apartments, designed to showcase the power and daily rituals of Louis XIV.
The Queen’s Apartments, where generations of queens—including Marie Antoinette—lived before the French Revolution.
The Gardens of Versailles, André Le Nôtre’s breathtaking landscape of fountains, sculptures, hidden groves, and perfectly aligned perspectives (seasonal fountain shows depending on the date of your visit).

Beyond the grandeur, your guide will reveal the human stories behind the palace: the ambitions of Louis XIV, the lavish entertainments that dazzled Europe, the strict etiquette that governed every moment of court life, and the events that ultimately led to the fall of the French monarchy.

By the end of your visit, you’ll understand why Versailles remains one of the world’s most celebrated royal residences, not simply for its beauty, but for the remarkable story of the king whose vision forever changed the course of French history.
