More than a Louvre tour: a travel through time

With over 10 million visitors every year, the Louvre is truly the number one museum in the world. You might know it for the ‘Mona Lisa’ of course, but also ‘Liberty Leading the People’ or the ‘Winged Victory of Samothrace’. But did you know that the Louvre museum is home to a collection of over 35,000 objects? Ranging from ancient sculptures to paintings, tapestries to crown jewels, it is much more than the famous lady with her enigmatic smile…

With such a wide collection, visiting the Louvre can seem challenging… Where to even begin? During this guided tour of the Louvre, your expert guide takes you through the museum and helps you live the best experience possible. He shows you the celebrated highlights, as well as some of our personal favorites.

On this special tour, discover how the Louvre castle became a royal residence, making this palace the most important one until Louis XIV’s creation of Versailles. The Kings of France promoted and patronized arts during their reigns. Filled with illuminated books, precious fabrics, priceless gemstones and gold items, the Louvre soon became the kingdom’s most valuable jewel box. What more natural then, than to make this place a national museum? And what a museum!

Highlights of our Louvre private visit

The tour begins with a view of the oldest part of the Louvre castle, whose impressive foundations show the untamable ambition of those medieval kings. From there, your group heads up into the fabulous Renaissance palais, with its majestic carvings recalling the grandeur of France’s golden age. Through the immense galleries and maze of corridors, your guide regales you with the history of some of the museum’s most revered treasures (the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory…), but also opens your eyes to a few of our favorite hidden gems.
