More than just a Private Tour of the Louvre ~ A Journey through Time

With almost 10 million visitors each year, the Louvre is truly the number one museum in the world. You may be familiar with ‘Mona Lisa,’ ‘Liberty Leading the People,’ or the ‘Winged Victory of Samothrace’. But did you know that the Louvre has over 35,000 objects on display from its collection of 500,000 objects? Ranging from ancient sculptures to paintings, tapestries to crown jewels, it is much more than the famous lady with her enigmatic smile…

With such a vast collection, visiting the Louvre can seem overwhelming… Where do you even begin? During this guided tour of the Louvre, your personal guide uses the best route to navigate the crowds and help you have the best experience possible. They will show you the celebrated highlights, as well as some of our personal favorites.

On this special tour, discover how the Louvre castle became the main royal residence, until Louis XIV’s creation of Versailles in the 17th century. The Kings of France promoted and patronized arts during their reigns, with Francois I securing the Mona Lisa for the royal collection from Leonardo himself! Filled with illuminated books, precious fabrics, priceless gemstones and gold items, the Louvre became the kingdom’s most valuable jewel box. You will also learn how such a royal collection became the world’s first national museum during the infamous French Revolution. And what a museum it is!

Highlights of our Louvre Private Tour

The tour begins with a view of the oldest part of the Louvre castle, whose impressive foundations show the  ambition of those medieval kings. From there, your group heads up into the fabulous Renaissance Palace, with its majestic carvings recalling the grandeur of France’s golden age. Explore one of the world’s largest art collections, much of which was owned by the royal family until the French Revolution. Through the immense galleries and maze of corridors, your guide regales you with the history of some of the museum’s most revered treasures (the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory…), but also opens your eyes to a few of our favorite hidden gems.

Louvre Strikes & Exceptional Circumstances

We would like to inform our guests that the Louvre Museum is currently affected by ongoing strike actions, with the possibility of additional strike days announced at short notice.

On certain mornings, the museum’s opening may be delayed pending confirmation from staff. In these cases, if you are booked for a morning tour, we may adjust the start time and ask you to wait while we monitor the situation.

Our policy in this circumstance is simple:

If the Louvre remains closed, you will receive a full refund.
If the Louvre opens (even later than planned), your tour will take place.

We understand that this may create some uncertainty, and we truly appreciate your patience and flexibility during this exceptional and unprecedented period. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Helpful Hints

The Museum is huge, so we highly recommend you wear some sneakers and comfortable clothes.

Safety ‘s Note

Next to the reinforcement of the security to enter the Museum, control may take longer than usual. Our skip the line tickets enable us to avoid the long queue. However you may have to wait a bit for the checking, especially during the high season.
